The sun is shining and there is a definite feel of spring in the air. Although many of our winter visitors are still here it will not be long before they depart and our skies will be full of returning summer visitors. There have been a few reports of some trailblazers making shore already!
The question is which of our returning summer visitors are you most looking forward to having back?
I've given you a list of various species that will soon be gracing our skies so please tell us about which one you are looking forward to seeing and why, and if you do see it, tell us where and when (submit the sighting to Birdtrack too!)
I know there are lots more birds heading our way than I have added in the list, if you feel that i should have included another one we would be happy to hear about it! Of course if you get any pictures of migrant birds we would love to see them!

I voted for the swallow so that I can film them using the specially made opening, built into the new woodshed door

Work is for those people that don't Bird-watch!!!!
I voted for swift, I just love hearing their screams fill the skies above as I'm walking the dogs on warm summer evenings.
But as always in these polls, I feel sorry for the ones with no votes :(
I voted osprey because that is the only one that matters! :)

Hi Ian,
I have voted for House Martin. They have nested on my house several times. I love sitting in the garden and watching them zoom in and out of the nest with such precision.

Thank you for taking the time to vote and comment.
The swift came out on top closely followed by the swallow with the osprey in third spot.
We won't be seeing the swifts for a little while yet but already reports of swallows are trickling in such as the one at the Portland bird observatory. There have also been osprey sightings as well so definitely keep your eyes to skies!
With sand martins spotted in parts of the UK already, it'll not be long before our skies are filled with other returning migrants.
Why not check out the news from the wildlife enquiries team?

i am voting for chiffchaffs, they must be getting rare in my part of the country,
about 5/6 years ago they would be singing all over the place,
i could even hear them driving around the roads with the windows down.

LOL. I now have this picture in my head of Chiffchaffs driving around with sunshades on with the windows down.
Sorry, I know what you really meant.
