Name this bird!

It's from The Garden of Earthly Delights, painted around 1500. Bosch was a pretty detailed bird painter so I'm hoping experts can identify it. Many critics say it's a shrike - but they may just be flocking (critics do that, like pollsters). Any advice most gratefully received!

  • I have two suggestions (they are probably both wrong!!) My first guess was a roller but the blue and brown is the wrong way round. Also another bird I remember seeing in a book somewhere- The Puerto Rican woodpecker.

I am not 100% sure, this is just a guess.
