Welcome to the RSPB Communities Christmas Advent calendar! Rather than chocolates (sorry), with each day that leads up to the big day, why not open a virtual Advent calendar window and reveal a teaser for you to ponder or post a picture. There is no right or wrong answer, the answers will simply be what you want to appear in that window. It’s Christmas, so let’s have some fun!Claire
Ah! Is a tree a plant? Lol! If it isn't, then I'm with Ian with ivy!!

The Scots pine - they make such wonderful nesting trees for the osprey!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Very difficult to pick just one. Restricting it to my garden I'll go for my Pyracantha. It has lovely blossom in the spring for the insect, red berries in the autumn/winter which the thrushes like and it provides a nice thorny haven for several species of birds.

Again, so many wonderful plants, and can I include trees ? to choose from like Buddleia but with seeing my first Waxwings last year and return of the Winter Thrushes this year it's a toss up between the Sorbus (Rowan) and the Crataegus (Hawthorn) with their lovely berries :)

I would say the Oak Tree, if that's counted as a plant!!
Regards,
Ian.
Heather,it grows in places I love and helps moorland birds, just a pity I would get burnt every few years.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
I would have to pick the Reed beds so many birds and animals used them.

Rain forest fig trees (many and various species) - they attract just about everything with feathers or fur :-)
"Let loose the Kraken!"
I think that Ivy is possibly the best, the sort that that forms rambling bushes & covers walls. The sparrows all nest in it, roost in it in winter & the insects go mad for it in the summer. Its evergreen, never needs attention & often grows where you don't want it. But that's life.
Best wishes
