Welcome to the RSPB Communities Christmas Advent calendar! Rather than chocolates (sorry), with each day that leads up to the big day, why not open a virtual Advent calendar window and reveal a teaser for you to ponder or post a picture. There is no right or wrong answer, the answers will simply be what you want to appear in that window. It’s Christmas, so let’s have some fun!Claire
Fantastic, Auntie!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Nice pictures Auntie,we only lucky enough to see one feeding locally this year, just like in your photos.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
LOL Alan, thought it may be the Kingfisher for you ! and I don't even have to guess what MC will chose ;) !!

LOL, I absolutely see the problem, I would choose them all for favourites :)
My choice is equally divided between Robin & Kestrel so I shall leave the former to MC who has the most fabulous gallery of pics!
As I am lucky enough to have the Kestrels' nest opposite my home, I cannot fail to be enthralled by their actions - they have given me such an insight into their lives & I just adore being able to take pics/vids of them (as you are all probably only too aware!) - a sample of my lovely birds...
2012 fledglings taken on 6th & 21st July
The lovely Mrs K on 29th April this year
The handsome Mr K on 1st May
Not forgetting Baby George K - my dear little rescued chick - this pic taken on 5th August
Looking forward to next year with hope in my heart!
Wendy, they are all stunning.
Brilliant choices, love all the photos and those gorgeous Kestrels :)
My favorite UK Bird is the Goldfinch because of all the vivid colours including Red and Yellow. About 25 years ago I never had them in my garden. But now occasionally i do get them here and from time to time on my bird feeders. They have been over the last few years a great addition to my garden.
Regards,
Ian.
I'd say yellowhammer because of it's notorious call that everyone knows and the splash of colour that brightens up any day.
Lot to learn
I can't really say I have a particular favourite, but I will admit to a bit of a soft spot for these guys, probably as they're difficult to see, hiding amongst the reeds all the time, then suddenly appearing into the open. The rush of pleasure to see one clearly is always intoxicating
