Welcome to the RSPB Communities Christmas Advent calendar! Rather than chocolates (sorry), with each day that leads up to the big day, why not open a virtual Advent calendar window and reveal a teaser for you to ponder or post a picture. There is no right or wrong answer, the answers will simply be what you want to appear in that window. It’s Christmas, so let’s have some fun!Claire
The problem with bringing that Wren back, with it being flightless, how could we prevent the same thing happening again? Please don't state the obvious!!
I thought of Woolly Mammoth but, if we don't have the habitat & protection for the Elephants we currently have, what' s the point?
Hmm.. Well spotted Wendy. You have a good point. Hadn't quite thought that one through.

I am with Clare on this one--the Passenger Pigeon.
As for the previous couple of days--could not choose a wildlife series or programme, but for a fave, still living and international conservationist: David Attenborough. I also agree about the importance of Sir Peter Scott (and the WWF, WWT and the Nene), and Gerald Durrell. For historic influence in the USA, John Muir (persuaded the first Pres. Roosevelt to begin the National Parks programme) and Aldo Leopold (conservationist and author of A Sand County Almanac which kick-started the US conservation movement of the 2nd half of the 20th century).
Kind regards, Ann
Haast's Eagle would be the one for me, Something big enough to regards the Moa as a snack would be really worth seeing (as would of course Moas)!
"Let loose the Kraken!"
Going to be very controversial and say Hen Harrier as a breeding bird in England.
More in the spirit of this thread Passenger Pigeon, hard to understand how a bird that was once so numerous could be lost forever shows we must always be vigilant.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
Day 8:Favourite wildlife webcam?
Do you really need to ask? The LG webcam featuring EJ the Beautiful and Odin the Magnificent! Their antics are worth watching.
I also really like the Dyfi webcam and the Orange FalconCam Project.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
I would have to say Africam, LG, Dyfi, Rutland and LOTL.
"Birds are, quite simply, little miracles - and as such they require care and consideration."
