RSPB Communities Christmas Advent calendar

Welcome to the RSPB Communities Christmas Advent calendar! Rather than chocolates (sorry), with each day that leads up to the big day, why not open a virtual Advent calendar window and reveal a teaser for you to ponder or post a picture. There is no right or wrong answer, the answers will simply be what you want to appear in that window. It’s Christmas, so let’s have some fun!

    I can't really choose one favourite. I love all the insects that come & pollinate our flowers, fruit & veg, especially butterflies & also dragonflies. I love the beetles & the colourful spiders. The frogs & toads & lizards. The mice & a badger. I love all the birds especially the robins in winter & black-redstarts in summer because they are always there. The songbirds are all favourites.

    If I had to choose one it would probably be the Wryneck because his calls tell me Spring is here & he is so colourful & because of his rarity too.

    Mine has to be the Goldcrest the Robin and the Jay.

    I agree with everyone that this is a very difficult question to answer. I would maybe say House Sparrows. We have a large Holly bush in the garden and there are often upwards of 50 sparrows in it. The chaos and noise they bring really makes me smile.

    Not easy to answer, is it? I am going have to go for two; Goldfinches, because they are beautiful to look at and listen to, and Starlings, because they are so angsty, in your face and lovely looking birds in all their different plumage stages.

    But there again....!?

    Now that's what I call a good garden bird. Very envious. I've seen them but never as well as that. You'd hardly think that they were a member of the woodpecker family.

    I would have to agree with you PA...this is my "singing Pyracantha" today...

    My Sparrows & Dunnocks are my constant daily companions & I luv 'em!!

    Bird wise for me it is a toss up between starling and sparrowhawk. I can't not mention frogs though!
