Welcome to the RSPB Communities Christmas Advent calendar! Rather than chocolates (sorry), with each day that leads up to the big day, why not open a virtual Advent calendar window and reveal a teaser for you to ponder or post a picture. There is no right or wrong answer, the answers will simply be what you want to appear in that window. It’s Christmas, so let’s have some fun!Claire
Chris Packham for me, grew up with him as a child and now as an adult!
I would say David Attenborough. I remember him on TV as a 6 year old in the 1950's watching him on TV in some of his very early TV wildlife films.
Regards,
Ian.
Have to agree with Rockwolf and THOMO on this one, its still Sir David for me.
I can't imagine any other naturalist who would have asked Princess Anne if she would have liked a multi-coloured backside like a male mandrill's!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
I think Terry Nutkins and Steve Irwin both should get a mention

I read Gerald Durrell as a teenager, & Sir Peter Scott, Sir Richard Attenborough & Simon King (Priddy again) have publicised conservation but perhaps for me it's all the organic landowners, farmers & individuals who have put these ideals into practice on a day to day basis.
Best wishes

Gerald Durell as an individual for being at the forefront of the movement for both proper captive breeding programmes and accessible (and very funny) writing about wildlife. Then the guys who formed the WWF. An honourable mention for Sir Peter Scott - particularly for helping save the Nene.
Nene (wild, honestly, they're just very used to people) on Kaua'i.
"Let loose the Kraken!"
Even though he died many years ago I think Sir Peter Scott gets my vote for his lasting legacy. Not only was he one of the founding members of the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) but he also founded the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust and was instrumental in saving the Hawaiian Goose from almost certain extinction.

Sir Richard Attenborough is one of the more influential at this time but I still enjoy Bill Oddie's presentations on tv and writings.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
My favourite is the obvious choice of Sir David Attenborough but I have to give some credit to Greenpeace for their concerns and actions to try prevent the killing of whales and the protection of the Arctic/Antarctic regions.
