Often confused as insects (despite having no antennae) spiders, though they are also members of the Arthropod phylum, belong to the largest order of Arachnids. In fact, as of 2008, a massive 43,678 spider species have been recorded (that’s a lot of legs!!!!). As you know, each spider has eight legs, and if you look close enough you’ll notice that their mouthparts are primed with tiny fangs. Bizarrely enough I suffer from Arachnophobia, but even I have to admit that this diverse group of creatures are absolutely fascinating and I do hope you will join me for next 12 weeks as I test your spidey senses.Have fun,ClaireMYSTERY SPIDER QUIZ #1Clue: Envious circle
So you wouldn't like us to put lots of photos of spiders on this thread, MrsT? ;)
My guess is Araniella cucurbitina, because of its greenness and orb-web-spinneriness.

Post away, that'll be one way for me to conquer my fear. Although, the process did take one step back over the weekend as one decided to bite me.I guess I did ask for it as I was clearing weeds close to its hideout.
ooh Mrs T - I don't do spids as they have too many legs that run too too fast!! OK if they're weenjy little things though ..... So, much warning required if you're going to post any pics of tarantulas & the like pleeze LOL!!

Hazy, that is one reason why I will never go to Aus.....
LOL ! to be honest, after the first 3 months you don't really think about the snakes or spiders anymore but you do have to remember to shake your shoes out or the gardening gloves before putting them on !
Got to say I'm a total Arachnophobe as well! Lol! The only spiders I quite like are the Jumpers. The ones I most hate are not actually spiders, but their cousins, the Harvestmen (Opiliones). Eurgh!! Think I was bitten by one a few years ago. I say think as I didn't see what bit me, just the result of it!!
Anyhow, can't think of a better answer than Aiki has given!

I must admit I was hoping for something more cuddly for this next quiz.
I'd got as far as thinking it might be an orb spider but that was it. I think aiki's answer fits the clue perfectly.
