Hello Folks! It's time to go underwater and explore the wonderful world of UK fish. Some are spotty, some have stripes. Some prefer lakes, others prefer streams. Prepare to get your feet wet and get your fins in a flap! Each Monday for 12 weeks I will be posting a little teaser for you. Without looking in books or on the internet (i.e - no cheating), see if you can identify the UK fish On Wednesday, so as long as no-one has guessed it, I will post one clue. On Friday I will post the answer along with some additional information for your interest.MYSTERY FISH QUIZ #10Clue: No red eye here.
I will go for Rudd, as we have had Roach before and one of the clues was something about a red eye, and these two fish look similar.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
Im unsure Pete I've heard of Sockeye but red eye could well be a type of Salmon.
Maybe I'm getting confused with Sockeye Shane,or tins of Pink Salmon.Reckon your Rudd could win the the coconut.
Clue tomorrow!
Clue: Outlandish archery mush strip.
scardinius erythrophthalmus or Rudd as Shane says
Congratulations to all of you who guessed Rudd (Scardinius erythrophthalmus). First, a bit about the clues: The first clue: No red eye here. Though similar in build to Roach, Rudd have noticeable yellow eyes. Roach have a big red spot above the pupil of their eyes. The second clue: Outlandish archery mush strip is an anagram of the Latin for Rudd - Scardinius erythrophthalmus.
Belonging to the Cyprinidae family, Rudd have upturned mouths, which enable them to feed close to the surface of water. Rudd have yellowish green skin and can grow up to 45cm in length. A fresh water fish, Rudd prefer water rich in aquatic plant life. A shoaling fish, Rudd eat aquatic insects, zooplankton and plant matter.
A picture of a Rudd is found here.
Did you know that: Rudd were illegally introduced into New Zealand in the 1960’s.
Keep an eye out for next week’s fish quiz!
Take care,
Claire
Nice one Shane well done
Thanks Pete.
