Excuse me for joining this community in a bit of a hurry ! Just about a mile outside of the village Burstwick in East Yorkshire (passed the golf centre) Halsham Road, I spotted osprey feeding on top of large dead tree near the roadside (I nearly crashed my van) ! The fish was still alive (just) - it appeared to be a large goldfish or carp. Anybody familiar with the area know that theres a couple of large fishing ponds nearby (Halsham). I can only guess that feeding has been quite good for this osprey. Woman in nearby house claimed the bird has been around for a few days but she had know idea it was an osprey.
Can anybody shed any light on what this bird is doing here ? At this time of year ? Is it an escaped captive bird ?
I will be returning on Saturday 17th October, with my camera this time.
I SAW IT, i spotted the osprey near burstwick golf flying in with fish in its talons it landed in dead tree but unfortunately just as i was about to take a photo a car came speeding by and spooked it and it flew of landed in a field in the distance waited around for quite a while but it never came back to the tree got a good look of it thought i think it was an adult by its marking how did you get on thebones1234 did you manage too see it again andf get any photos

Alicat, as I said on the chat page, well done. Sorry you didn't get your photograph but I am so pleased for you.
Great news Alicat, well done. I am sure you will get that photo, given time.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Hello Alicat, well spotted and more news, the osprey is still there as I saw it again (Thurday 29th October)same tree - feeding on gold fish again - it did look a bit 'rough' could it be juvenile. I am hoping to get photo on friday.
Sorry to hear that the osprey looks 'a bit rough'. Would have thought, that if it hasn't got a decent food supply, it would move on. Hope it is not now too weak to travek further or is ill. I noticed there was one reported in E. Sussex today.
