Time to grasp the nettle as it where and say hello to everyone, I got a Homes for Wildlife e-mail the other day and it had a link to here, so I popped in for a nosey and stayed. :-)
I'm in Leicestershire, a bit far from most Reserves, went to the Bird Fair for the first time this year, spent a few bob..Ahem.
I have started to put a few snippets and pictures on my profile page, so I just wanted to say hello and what a great site this is. :-D
Hi Juno,
Welcome to the forum I hope you enjoy being with us.
You say you are a bit far from the reserves try the wildlife trust website they have several in Leistershire, Rutland Water, Stonesby Quarry and Tilton Railway Cutting to name a few.
RSPB reserves can be found just over your border in Staffordshire Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire.

I'm slowly working my way around the Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trusts reserves, And I've managed a flying visit to Fineshades wood, Northampton...but work gets in the way of play at the moment.! :-/
All the best.

Hi Juno and welcome from me as well. I am really enjoying meeting people here and getting to know them. It's a great forum and I am sure you will enjoy it.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Hi Juno. Welcome to the forum. You'll really enjoy it here.

Welcome Juno from me also and Cartimandua I'm not sure I've welcomed you but hello to you too.
End of season but not end of the journey - hope you enjoy the site.
Thanks Cirrus!
Hi Juno
Great to hear that you managed to pay a visit to us in Fineshade Wood, if only a flying one. Hopefully you will be able to stay longer next time. Do pop into the shop next time you are around and say hello.
Reedbed, freshwater scrapes, saltmarsh and wet meadow. Frampton Marsh has it all! Come and pay us a visit soon.
The Community is a great idea, isn't it. Welcome!
I live in the inner city with a scrap of garden, but I have a pond with frogs and toads and sometimes newts, as well as a family of foxes that lives a few yards from my back door and play on the communal grass in the night-time. It's good to talk to people who love wildlife; I feel I'm desperatelytrying to protect it most of the time round here!
