Hiya
I have also just joined today, seems to be a popular day for joining up, cant be much on telly tonight! I wondered if there was anyone else from the Yorkshire area? I have recently rediscovered the joy of nature and all things wild and hope that I can share my enthusiasm and hopefully get lots of advice!
Hi 2FJ,
You'll get used to motorways in no time! This will be my first visit to Leighton so I'll let you know how it goes - there's a post in "Where to watch wildlife" that I'll update after my visit.
Likewise, please let us know how you find Old Moor.
Happy wildlife watching, one and all!

I too moved south to North from Kent to Shropshire!
LB - look forward to hearing all about Leighton Moss! Somewhere I hope to visit one day too!

Hi MarJus
Which part of Kent are you from? I was born on the Isle of Sheppy and then lived in Maidstone for quite a long time before moving to Sheffield 9 years ago. I have very fond memories of Kent and the longer I am away the rosier the tint in my glasses becomes!
Born in Ashford (but can never remember if that makes me a Kentish Maid or a maid of Kent! ;-))
Then lived in France for the first 10 years of my life and then came back to Tonbridge, and then lived in various locations around that area before moving here in Shropshire 8 years ago. Must say I much prefer it here! Kent is lovely but just a little too busy for my liking! I still visit regulalry as I have family & friends there but always glas to come home!!
After missionary work around England - including Sevenoaks - I've now returned home to God's Own County and live just north of York - Having move from the Broads I miss the bird life of Norfolk but at least I now have the grandchildren nearby. Nothing will surpass driving my boat about 3 yards from a Bittern, surprising an Otter while out fishing and watching swimming snakes, not to mention the resident Kingfishers at the end of the garden - thank God for memories.

Hello Bill (hope that's right), it's good to "meet" you. I can fully understand you missing the Broads after your description as it sounds idyllic. I hope you have lots of photos to enable you to "go back in time" when you want to.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Hi there,
I just joined yesterday after a trip to Leighton Moss with "Lucky Bustard". I have recently moved to Leeds from Scotland following work. Had a great day yesterday, spotted lots of coots, moorhen, mallards, shoveler, tufted, little grebe, grey heron, little egret, red shank, green shank, buzzard and two roe deer.. plus lots of woodland species as we walked between hides... Looking forward to seeing what else i manage to spot down here.. Bye for now..
Hello everyone,
Just a wee note to say I've updated the Leighton Moss discussion (under Where to watch wildlife) about our trip up there yesterday. Had a great day, despite the rain!
