Hi I’m in no way a bird expert but do take an interest in my surrounding wildlife. I wonder if someone has had an experience similar to mine this Saturday morning?so.. whilst enjoying a morning coffee around 6am this Saturday a low flying bird flew almost “slowly” down the length of our garden at a height of around 10 feet, had all the attributes (shape) of a heron but was dark blue/grey around 2ft long with its neck tucked , I’ve decided to look it up further and all I can come up with is a little blue heron, is this native to the uk and if so how common are they, any advice/info greatly appreciated.
sighting was in Thurnscoe Barnsley South Yorkshire
thanks in advance
The characters you descibe are typical for the native Grey Heron.
