Hi, I rescued a 2 day old fledgling blackbird from my cat, she has thrived and is now 16 days old and very agile. She is in a cage and being fed often. When is it best to release her, she still flaps and gapes when I feed her and isn’t showing signs of pecking her food.
Do you not think that by now it is a little bit imprinted and hasn't learned how to fend for itself at all? It may help to look-up your nearest rehab centre and ask their advice.
Ok I’ll do that. She definitely does not want to be in the cage anymore…
Hi, I took the fledgling to West Hatch RSPCA Wild life Center today. She will have the best time seeing other birds. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction, I’ve also signed up to volunteer there!!! Tx
Many thanks for quickly getting this youngster to wildlife centre today after successfully tending to it, hope you enjoy your volunteering there with the opportunity to learn so much more about caring for injured/neglected birds and animals, no doubt be some heartbreaking stories amongst the successes!
