Devon, It was at the RSPB Labrador bay famous for its Carl bunting
Thank you, highly unlikely to be that bird then, Merlin not infallible, did you see or just hear the bird?
It could be argued that dark eyed junco and cirl bunting songs are very similar.....I think for overseas software to be of good use, there needs to be a setting, to tell the software which continent it is being used on. That would, hopefully, sanitise the suggested answers.
Thank you for your responses, I will walk back up tomorrow armed with binos and camera
Do hope you have some luck getting pics of this bird
Check your settings - you should be able to turn off the individual packs leaving just the Western Palearctic active or select current location which hopefully will eliminate the oddities

germain’s suggestion sounds a good one. I am assuming the return trip didn’t produce anything.
Yes I popped up but it was windy so not much about, a few brave skylarks and crows. Will look at the settings before venturing back up
Junco spotted in Dorset. Location shared amongst local spotters so unlikely to be a hoax. Checked web for Junco background - north american bird which flies north to nest. Possibly blown of course to uk or via a ride on a ship. Junco confirmed with photo.
