Hi A kestrel has taken a keen interest in my 'candelabra' style bird feeder frightening all the other birds away. Is there anyway of protecting the birds whilst they are feeding ?

They're not actually.
Yes they do come and go but the goldfinches are there in numbers all year round, I'm sure there nesting in a nearby conifer. All I have now is the odd blue tit zooming out of the yew tree next to the feeder to grab a sunflower heart or peanut.
Goldies are actually quite a roving species. Ones you see one month may well be different to ones the next. If it's any consolation, my goldfinch counts in Feb were regularly double figures. Last week I had 9. So far this week I haven't seen any.
