I'm new to RSPB but love my garden birds! I have feeders hanging on an arch a few feet from my back door. For the last couple of weeks sparrows have been tapping on my kitchen and stairs windows. Mine's a small modern house with plastic double glazing. In 15 years in this house I have never seen this behaviour. Any ideas why this is?
Hello Liz, they will be seeing their reflection and think it is another bird. You can help them stop doing this by putting something on the window. Window stickers or clings, even cling film, foil, paper, something to stop them seeing their reflection. Have a look on amazon for ideas.

Many thanks for your advice Catlady. I'm familiar with birds flying into windows at a friends house but this is new. I'm off to find some window stickers now! Thanks too for advice on user name which as you will see I have changed. It reflects my time in Uganda, a wonderful country for bird watching.
Well done on changing your name. I had a quick look on amazon and have attached a link for you.

Thank you so much. I spent a happy hour or two browsing decals, what a selection, fitted them yesterday and not a single peck this morning. Result!
Great
