In the Lincolnshire Wolds this week, we saw a small flock of birds that I didn't recognise and had never seen before. Similar size to a sparrow, but had quite distinctive russet brown plumage and dark grey/black wings. Found out they were Redstart, but that by now they should have migrated to warmer climes and, also that they are not usually found in this part of the uk. Anyone else seen any ?
Welcome to the forum Janette.
I've no idea why those redstarts haven't migrated, though I will say it's not unique to redstarts, I read somewhere that Dartford Warblers had been seen recently on the south coast.
It may be they were a late brood and not ready to migrate with the others, or perhaps the environment was just right for them to stay, but I am wildly guessing. Hopefully someone may be able to give an idea,
Mike

Dartford Warblers have always been a resident in the UK and have always suffered in long harsh Winters in the UK.

Ian.

Found out they were Redstart
I can see this thread has gone cold. But, if there is any update/response, what does the above mean in terms of how it was "found out"? Even if it was April, what has been written isn't 'redstart'.
