Hi everyone. Every year we have a pair of swallows nest in our porch. They have two nests and produce a clutch in each nest each year.
I am concerned that all the birds have flown except one. I’m assuming it’s one of the parents. I’m sure by now they have usually fledged and set off on their migration by now. It’s definitely unusual for there to be a single bird left.
Am I being to concerned or should I look to do something for the one that remains, and if so, what?
Thanks in advance. Mike
Lets try and give this request a bit of a boost.
Unfortunately I don't know enough to answer your question, though it isn't unusual for swallows to be around until very late September.
Perhaps some info on the following questions might help prospective answers.
If the last swallow chick has fledged, then it should only be a matter of time before it starts the long journey south.

And of course, because I sent that whilst at work.... when I came home, 200 yards down the road half a dozen martins were fizzing about

I spoke to a former colleague a couple of days ago, who now lives in Northumberland, and still swallows there, along with housemartins.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
