Slow worms and my 3 cats!

Hi there,

I'm looking for some advice. I live in Newport South Wales and we have 3 cats who are let out everyday and typically stay in our garden or roam up and down our street. Last summer we noticed we were finding dead slow worms outside on our back shared access lane and we had one bought in the house. This wasn't something that had happened before, we had had mice and birds bought in but never a slow worm.

I'm not sure whether it's because this spring there's more slow worms out in the garden and around where we live or the cats are just really good at catching them now because we are having at least 1 a day bought to our back door or in the house. We're unable to keep our back door open or any windows while they're outside or we'll inevitably have one bought in. I'm feeling really bad for the slow worms and as we're only in May, this will continue until they go back into hibernation in October. I'm not entirely sure where the slow worms are coming from as I've seen dead ones at the front of our house and on our shared access lane mostly. Our garden is raised and need to go up steps to get to it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
