Are your birdboxes active this year?

We've 10 bird boxes in place, 4 boxes are totally empty, 3 have had variable amounts of nesting material placed in them, 3 have birds sitting on eggs at the moment ... 1x Great Tit and 2x Blue Tit.

Thanks. Is that typical of the occupancy levels?

I have Robins in a tin can box!

I usually have Blue and Great Tits in 2 of my boxes, no interest at all so far.

We seem to have a female blue tit laying/sitting at the moment the male sits on the fence and she comes out of the box and he feeds her they have a little ‘preen’ and then she either flies off
with him for a short time before returning or she goes straight back to the box, this was the box that sparrows were very interested in a few weeks ago but the tits seem to have persevered and guarded the box and made it their own and are very protective. It does seem quiet this afternoon/evening though and I am concerned that this heavy rain will be difficult for food supplies and this happened two years ago when the nest was abandoned I think because the parents could not find enough food for the babies
I do see more activity in the early part of the day - is this normal?
This box had many successful fledglings at our previous house and garden

Is this common then in a wet spring? If I’m honest I’d never realised before or we’d been very lucky in our previous location with probably a good food supply though we’re surrounded by fields and countryside now

I have seen a thread on here about making suet and ‘plain pastry’ readily available especially when the chicks hatch? Is that something that anyone recommends or do you let nature take its course? The problem here would be robins, blackbirds, sparrows and starlings getting in first!

Have had a nesting box up for the past 10 years under the porch. Was used once by great tits a couple of years back. Nothing this year.

I would move that to somewhere where you can still see the activity but where the birds can feel they’re safe and away from any human threat? That’s my opinion anyway but I hope whichever way there’s a nesting another year
