Female Blackbird broken or damaged wing

Good morning

After some advice about a beautiful female blackbird thats unable to fly, her wing appears to be slightly dropped. She’s seems very healthy, feeding well. Not sure if to just leave her as is or get her to help / we help her. Slight concerns as neighbour has a cat & we have an elderly dog, although the blackbird doesn’t seem phased & we have plenty of cover in our garden.

Grateful for any advice.

  • Hi Jools,   for the moment, if she is eating well and has vegetation/shrub cover in the garden I would keep a watch and wait to see if the wing improves and she is able to eventually fly.     Trying to catch her would probably cause unnecessary stress if she is still looking healthy enough and feeding ok.    You could offer her raisins that have been soaked for a few hours or mealworms which would be beneficial to her -  you could scatter a few on the ground at a time although don't put too much out as it may attract unwanted predators.      If there is a deterioration in the health of the blackbird you can contact your local wildlife rescue for advice or help  HERE         We had a Goldfinch that flew into a window and ended up with a dropped wing but amazingly it recovered so must have only bruised the wing or muscle,   hopefully your blackbird hasn't sustained severe damage so give her a little more time to recover before taking more drastic action.  Good luck.
