Angry Bird

Does anyone know why a blue tit would be angrily fluttering up and down my kitchen window .

Its walled  patio with a large olive tree and various herbs dotted around bordered on one side with an extension wall with a flat roof and ivy on three sides around the kitchen window we have grape vines on trellis.

We have a bird feeder tray on the patio table and a feeder hanging .

Above the flat roof we have some sparrow nest boxes but all the blue tit boxes are in the main garden .

We do see many birds feeding in the patio area including on one occasion a sparrow hawk who had the manners to sit on the carver chair while eating his unfortunate victim

However weve not seen this before with a blue tit.

    It can see its reflection and it thinks it's a rival. Most birds don't recognise that they're looking at themselves when they see their reflections (though magpies can).

    Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

    I think Clare has got it right, at this time of year your Blue Tit will be very territorial and protective of both mate and nest site so will be trying to scare off any potential rival. They rarely seem to harm themselves and it soon passes.
