I recently took a photo of a male goldcrest displaying but the crest was red instead of the usual yellow or orange is this unusal

Hi Michelle, these tiny birds are quite common but you will see them more around areas with mixed/coniferous woodland - they don't stay still for more than a second so look out for this little bird flitting around trees liken spruce/ conifers or the like as they are mainly looking for insects.
