A Sparrowhawk's Lament

Just got a copy of this the other week, still using up some Christmas money, and I have a feeling it is one of those books where I will be sorry when I have finished reading it. The author,David Cobham takes a look at the fifteen species of raptor breeding in the U.K. and studies both their histories and their welfare in modern times. Most of the recent history comes from both personal studies and local experts making for some fascinating reading. The illustrations are by Bruce Pearson and in a book of this quality add more to the book than coloured photos. I have only read three of the chapters that covered my favourite raptors but on this reading so far I reckon it should be of interest to any birder with an interest in these species. It will be getting a prized place on our well filled shelves of birding books.
