Welcome to the new look community site!

Welcome back everyone, the site upgrade has so far been successful and we have brought it back online early! Hopefully you will all be able to have a good look round and get a feel for the new layout.

When you get to the Community home page you will notice the blue bar along the top, most categories on this have drop down menus which will lead you to the various forums and blogs related to the specific topics. All of the original content will still be accessible but you may notice a few things have been moved around and will look slightly different. We will be explaining these changes as we go over the next few days.

Feel free to post away and we hope that you will enjoy using the new site!

  • Edit.  Forget that.  Its too earlt in the morning I was reading the title.

How do I edit an entry

  • This is my first post on the new forum. I have had a look round the site and don't have any comments to make at the moment, except that I can't find a wildlife gardening forum.

    Have I missed something?

    Hi Claire,

It's under Get involved > Homes For Wildlife > Forums :-)

I created a forum map that lists all the forum and has direct links to each section here - Forum Map

  • Thanks, Kat and Alan - found it.

As others have pointed out the forum is a bit convoluted!

  • Hi all this is my first post on the new site. I use a number of other forums and I must say that I think the RSPB have shot themselves in the foot with this one. In my opinion the only thing wrong with the old one was the speed which I believe was more hardware related than software. This forum is very fragmented compared to others and therefore not easy to navigate in fact it is dreadful I don’t think I will be using it much

  • I think it is a difficult thing - what is great now is that the groups and blogs are now integrated in so when someone posts in a groups forum, it appears on the new posts list so people can see it without having to go in all the groups to see if there are new posts.  Having the lastest blog posts there to see I also really like, again it brings ir a lot more into the community, which is built up on the forum posts, groups and the blogs and I think trying to intergrate all of this together is where the issues people are having have arisen.  I personally like the changes, and I certainly think that some of the less popular groups will benefit.  The RSPB community was meant to be more than just a forum - unfortunately the old version was very much seggregated now the lastest blogs and posts are there on the main page rather than having the  forum - then having to go to each of the groups forum - then checking the blogs to see what new blogs there were.

I certainly think that the community would benefit from having a drop-down list of all the forums on the main bar, so people can quickly and easily go from one forum to the next.

However, if someone is looking for a way around it you can add forums to your favourites list and on your page you can see a list of the forum (also means you can leave out ones that you tend nbot to use much).  This creates a list of the forums that is there and accessible.  (the same can be done for groups and blogs).

  • also the announcments, you can filter to just ones that apply to you. I agree the overall layout is a bit off, but it's now easier to track things across groups, rather than having to leave the main forum to check on group forums

It's both what you do and the way that you do it!

  • I'm much happier with it now, but I hope they can fix the bugs.

    Best wishes Chris

  • Hi all

Thank you for all your feedback so far, both good and bad, it will help us tweek the new site for everyone's benefit.

If you have an issue please add it to the 'squish list' thread, however we would appreciate it if you could read through the list first to make sure that your problem has not already been added, once it's on there we will be aware of it and will look into it and it does not need bringing to our attention again.

I have made the squish list sticky and cleared up a few of the other sticky posts so that the home page list is less cluttered. If anyone is still struggling to find posts the forum map may be of interest and please consider creating a list of favourite forums to ease any navigation issues.
