I've got a few blackbirds that seem to be nesting in the garden. There is one particular blackbird but I'm not sure if it is a young one or a female. It sounds like it is sneezing continuously. Is this a warning sound or something else?

  • The warning call can be continuous if the perceived danger doesn't move away. I personally wouldn't liken it sounding similar to sneezing though. Semi warning call is more similar to clucking and it escalates to what I would describe as an annoying, continuous 'hammering call'! If you do have a nest (multiple nests within the same garden are possible if you have a larger than average garden), you will certainly have heard the alarm call regularly so far this breeding season.
