Hi everyone I'm so excited, just had to tell everyone, I've been feeling so sorry for the Song Thrush I've had visiting, he/she has been getting mobbed and chased away by the Blakbirds whenever he comes to my garden for a feed, and he's been getting so nervous of late with the Blackbirds now in pairs attacking him, and all on his own while I have noticed lot's of my birds pairing up, I had wondered if he would find a mate with them being so scarce now, AND HE HAS, he turned up today with his own mate, with a mate for support now I hope the Blackbirds might leave him alone. I don't suppose they will though with all the fighting for there patch of land now spring is on it's way.
Being new to this, I don't know but does it ever happen that some birds won't find a mate and miss a breeding season.
There is a sufficiency in the world for man's need but not for man's greed.
Thanks for that Janet unfortunately the tallest place in my garden is our pergoda, probably not high enough for him.

my fat balls are about 8 / 10 ft off the ground, but they are also near a large fir tree.
I have an idea, if your pergoda is wood you could make a " T " shape out of wood screw it to pergoda, put hook in each end then hang fat balls on that.
Then you will need steps.
unless the oak tree is near you could hang one on a branch.
Hey farmer, farmer, put away the D.D.T now. Give me spots on my apples, but leave me the birds and the bees, please!
Hi Janet thanks for that suggestion, thats a good idea, I don't have a tree near the pergoda but I do have rather mature ivy thats quite thick growing up over it so I could pull some of that up over the extension, if that would also help, or do you think that would put him off.
Ivy is good, and some other feeders there will get lot more vists from birds.
Ivy is very good.
Thanks Janet, I have a couple of feeders and a small hanging bird table on the pergoda so the birds have cover to dash into, all my small birds use the hanging bird table even my Dunnocks and blue tits have started started using it, but I have nothing like your number of feeders, I've been looking at your photo of your feeders it's amazing, I don't get enough birds into my garden to justify having that many :( or does having that many bring more birds into the garden.

You don't have to have a lots of feeders to get lots of birds, you just have to place them in a good place and put in the right food.
Take no notice of mine, I do tend to go overboard when I get into somethink, but I do enjoy feeding and watching the birds. having to gave up work, it gives me some thing to do with my time :-) and it makes me happy! and thats what counts!!
you are doing just fine with what you have, add to them if you have the room, and also what you can afford.
Hi Janet, its such a lovely hobby isn't it, I don't know where the time goes these days, it gives me great pleasure too, watching the birds, and I'm loving this forum, I'm learning such alot from you all on here and I'm not driving my OH so mad now I've found all of you to talk to about it all, I think I was driving him potty talking birds all the time.
Hi BBB
it's a great hobby, you can even do it from the comfort of your chair!
My hubby is just as mad as me for looking after the birds, he keeps telling me we have to do the feeders now, or we need to make up some more ground food. mind you I get my own back, make me another bird box, or put up another feeder.
Such fun!
He comes runing when I see some thing, a new bird, or a sparrowhawk, I fight him for the camera! LOL
Hi Janet I wish mine was like that, he does love animals like me though, and I have only been feeding the birds for a short time, so I'm hoping in time he will start catching the bug too.

gosh I read that to fast I thought you was going to say "he will start catching the bugs to feed the birds"
now that's devotion!!
it's getting late, LOL
LOL I know it all starts getting a bit of a blur when its getting late, I'm sitting here squinting.
