Hi everyone I'm so excited, just had to tell everyone, I've been feeling so sorry for the Song Thrush I've had visiting, he/she has been getting mobbed and chased away by the Blakbirds whenever he comes to my garden for a feed, and he's been getting so nervous of late with the Blackbirds now in pairs attacking him, and all on his own while I have noticed lot's of my birds pairing up, I had wondered if he would find a mate with them being so scarce now, AND HE HAS, he turned up today with his own mate, with a mate for support now I hope the Blackbirds might leave him alone. I don't suppose they will though with all the fighting for there patch of land now spring is on it's way.
Being new to this, I don't know but does it ever happen that some birds won't find a mate and miss a breeding season.
There is a sufficiency in the world for man's need but not for man's greed.
I would say that all that family, including Blackbirds, it is the female who builds the nest.
Thank you Brenda. I have to say I haven't seen any of my female blackbirds for a couple of days. The males are still here.

Sparrow, your female blackbirds must be off building there nests then.
Collared Dove nests are interesting - a few twigs thrown in a heap! Minimum effort there, then..... LOL
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

Too right Squirrel - Collard Doves' nests are really haphazard - but they seem to hold together even though a puff of wind looks like it would blow it down. Amazing when you seem them, I'm glad they're not house proud really as it fits in rather well with my own housekeeping prowess - couldn't do with a houseproud bird when round ours! A Hyacinth Bouquet dove would be the worst kind LOL

I was going to say that sounds a bit risky, how on earth do there chicks survive lol. The strangest nest I've seen was in the Forest of Dean, on a woodland campsite, there was a notice on the ashtray, that was on the wall right next to the rather busy campsite shop door, saying please do not use the ashtray because of the Blue tits nesting in it.
I wouldn't worry either Sparrow at the pooh in your nest box, if there happy making a nest in a smelly ashtray, I'm sure they probably don't mind.
Well how's this for a co-incidence? Having just put out more food for the birds, I was catching up with this thread while watching the proceedings and I am pleased to report that my one Song Thrush has also become two. YAY!!
I nearly missed them as I tend to work on the basis that I have a few minutes before any birds arrive but they were joint fourth, arriving after the male Blackcap (Mrs Blackcap doesn't seem to do early rising!), the Grey Wagtail and one of my two Pied Wagtails. Interesting to note that it is all my newbies who are pretty quick off the mark when it comes to feeding LOL.
