placing feeders

hi

im redoing my garden and i would like to see where some of you have placed your feeders in your gardens any chance some people could take some pictures and post them please

thanks

  •

I get 25kg of nyjer seed for £30.00, wich will last me a while,

my mix seeds cost  £19.00 25kg it adds up but i time it so i don't get them all at the same time.

I alway buy big bags last longer and works out cheaper.

Hey farmer, farmer, put away the D.D.T now. Give me spots on my apples, but leave me the birds and the bees, please!

I buy bulk sunflower hearts, safflower, peanuts, nyger & wild bird mix online. It does work out cheaper & I also try to spread it out so that I am not buying them altogether.

I find it's all the extras like suet pellets, cake, sultanas, fat balls, fruit, dried mealworms, peanut granules & small seed mixes that are costing me money.

I am going to try to get some extra storage bins for next winter so that I can bulk buy peanut granules & suet pellets to save money.

I have started to breed my own mealworms so that I have plenty always to put out, especially in breeding season & winter.

  • Janet do you get any problems with rats / mice from the food I guess you have to be careful to clean up around the base of the tree.  It is truely inspring.  I agree with the others if you ever can post a photo that would be wonderful.  there is some footage from a garden in pembrokshire on youtube showing a feeding station of a quarter the sizeo of yours (in terms of feeders) so I can but imagine... IF its not against forum rules can you share your stockist which you said was good value please? thank you Zoe

  • Yes we have mice, but they live in the compost heaps which is near the apple tree, think you can just see the top of them (compost heaps) under the tree.

they do get in the shed where the food is kept but the food is kept in dustbins with lids. I feed the mice as well :-) they don't get near the birds, the nest boxes are on the side of my house. I'm a soft when it come to any wild live.

I have posted a photo of my tree, but here is it again

  • We also rake the gound and when its nice we put the lawn mower over it this picks up most of the seed left. but we do get a lot of birds so not to much is lost. I do have some film footage of birds feeding on the feeders, but its not the best a bit jumpy,  i will try to upload some on youtube, but I warn you its crap :-)
