Baby Woodpigeon ?

I had a young wood pigeon in my garden today, feeding near my window. (Sorry camera batteries drained). He didn't have the white patches on his throat. I was surprised to see him as I thought all the babies from the summer had matured. I've not see him hanging around, so newcomer to my garden. I thought it was strange to have a baby/young one at this time of year. I know wood pigeons aren't the best parents, but there weren't any others around. Does anyone know how old wood pigeons are when their white patches appear to indicate adulthood? I thought this was very strange.

Hmm exactly Blackbird hence my concern, this isn't normal. I have about 4-6 young wood pigeons per year and I have never seen one without its white patches at this time of year.

It was very mild, warm & sunny until mid October here in the Midlands, so it could be possible it was hatched then. Going by Pauls' referance book it could've hatched then.

My camera is charged now so hopefully he will be back tomorrow so I can get the evidence.

My Camelia was in bud at the beginning of December & Bulbs were up too. Global warming has had a terrible effect on wildlife over the last few years. Bill Oddie said on his last  Autumnwatch that there were more species having difficulties & strange occurrances due to global warming.

Look at our current weather, I'm getting on for 40 & have never seen severe snow & freezing temperatures go on for this long in my life.

It's a sad fact that we are going to be seeing more of, because humans have destroyed this world for their own selfish desires.

The sooner people wake up to this & accept it the better.

Hi he has been again today with parents, feeding together, they are feeding directly into his beak still. I have been trying all afternoon to get a pic but the parents are very skittish & keep flying off when they see me at the window.

Here is baby on the fence, very zoomed in on a very old basic digital camera.

He has got a tiny fleck of white coming through on the left side of his neck. I will keep trying to get a closer better pic of him.

Oh thankyou Brenda, I never realised before.

It looks like wod pigeons are breeding late in the year, thats Keeta, Sandy no 2 & myself with them. Maybe they are confident that there is a good food supply to get them through despite the cold weather.
