I live on the Isle of Wight and have been putting food out for birds in my garden for years. Yesterday I was visited by about 15 fieldfare which took soft fruit and suet-feed. I've never seen any before. Is this a result of the bad weather driving them further south?

Hi Dave,
My first post! I live in Seaford, East Sussex, and for the very first time we have fieldfare's in our garden. They have been here for the past 3 days. There are probably about 100 of them. They are feeding on the berries, under the snow! and we have put food, apples etc out, and they seem to be loving it! We are under snow at the moment!
Welcome Dave and Claretandblue,
Nice to here you all enjoying the Fieldfares, i have had 1 in our garden for the first time this year so i know you excitement, wished there were more here. Looking forward to reading more of your posts.
Neil
If it aint broken, dont fix it !.... all good things come to those who wait !
I live in bournemouth and i have been feeding birds for a few years. I have my usual customers come every morning however, i have noticed that a few fieldfares have recently come into my garden and whilst they are very beautiful birds: BEWARE. These are very aggressive birds and are chasing off my regular garden birds.
Hi Karen - I have noticed that our seagulls are giving them a wide berth! I don't know if you have tried to approach them? I have and can get quite near them, they are almost tame, or they are so hungry they just don't bother about me !!
Thanks for the welcome Neil - nice to find a site for our 'feathered' friends!

We live in Jersey, in the town of St Helier, and we have had a mixed flock of about 15 fieldfare and redwing in the garden for the last three days. Brilliant. The last time this happened was back in the 1980s. We have had a severe drop in the number of tits, finches and sparrows that usually come to our seed and nut feeders but the starlings are thriving. I have been wondering what to feed the thrushes on, and shall be taking up your suggestion of soft fruit and suet pellets. They seem to be attacking our plentiful snail population at the moment, for which I am profoundly grateful!
Hi Carrigans and welcome to the forum. Great to have you on board. When the thrushes have finished decimating your snail population could you send a couple this way to educate my thrushes please as I have told them over and over again that all the books say they like snails so would they please crack on with a bit of decimating but they all ignore me!
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Welcome to the forum Carrigans, nice to hear about your fieldfares and redwing, they do seem to be everywhere this year ;).
Hi,
We live in South Gloucestershire and saw a fieldfare in our garden yesterday. We had to look it up as we didn't know what it was. Later on that day we saw another whilst out walking. Our garden has been visited by a fieldfare again today, but the local blackbird seems very aggressive towards it.
Hi Joanne and welcome to the forum and Hi and wlecome also to Mike (claret and blue) as I have a feeling I missed you somewhere along the line.
