Hi all
I have just joined this forum and I have a question about a grey wag tail that has just visited my garden!!! My sister lives in scotland and I have seen them before (river tay) but can not belive I have just had one in the garden. I do my very best to attract birds and recently the patio has flooded making an artificial pool. I live in surrey and there is a river near the house but we are quite urban here.
Is this unusual will he/she be back?
many thanks
Hi Athena, a warm welcome to the forum.
Wintering birds have been known to return to the same sites, sometimes a small urban garden, each year.So it is not unusual, a lovely bird to have visiting your garden.
Grey Wagtails, can gather in small groups to roost during winter. So you my get more than one visiting your garden!
Your bird may have been a regular visitor, which you haven't noticed before!
As you have a river near to your house you may see them coming into your garden in search of insects, especially when the river is high.
Hope this helps!
Regards Buzzard

Thankyou
There has been a lot of rain and the river has flooded plus seeing it on a saturday (my day off) may well suggest that the only reason I have not see it before is because I have not been here in daylight to look out into the garden.
thanks again
Hi Athena, a warm welcome from me also.
I can't answer your question, although I'm sure Buzzard is right. (He usually is!!) If he comes again, I hope you have a camera ready.
Cheers, Linda.

HI Athena and welcome to the forum from me also. What a lovely bird to have in your garden. Here in Huntingdonshire we have lots of Pied Wagtails but I have not seen a Gray one.
Thankyou for the welcome, I am keeping a camera round my neck all day just in case. He/she really was stunning. Up untill now the yellow hammer has be the most unusual bird in the garden but I think the gray wag tail tops it.
thankyou for your welcome too, I will post up picture if I manage to get one..
A yellow hammer as well !! You are lucky. I seem to get all the little brown birds and the bigger black ones!! Looking forward to some pictures.
Hi athena,
Welcome from me too to the forum
I know you have already had your answer but wanted to say hello
Yellow hammer and a grey wagtail would be great to see any day in my garden - lucky you! :-)
