Hi bobbie the bird in the photo is a Female Blackcap.
Coal: Long-tailed Tits are one of my favourites. Also not to mention the 40 plus Goldfinches.
Sparrowhawk is up there as well!

Nature Is Amazing - Let Us Keep It That Way
Hi Coal
Mine would have to be Great Spotted Woodpecker :-)
However, I would be really excited to see a Sparrowhawk again. I have only ever seen one visit once, and as it was unsuccessful I wonder if it might have given up.
On the other hand all of the starlings have been acting really skittishly lately, grabbing one suet pellet then flying off very quickly, whereas they usually stay around and behave like a gang of hooligans. I wonder if I might have missed something.
Best wishes Chris

I'm tempted to say Song Thrush - not for the singing, fine as it is, but for the pest control (snails).
But my winner has to be the Green Woodpecker - brilliant colours, distinctive call, but best of all it eats the ants that inhabit our garden and it aerates the "lawn" with its beak
You may spot a trend there - birds that do my gardening for me!
Now if I could just train the starlings to pull up weeds instead of flowers ....

Great idea for a thread, Coal :o)
I agree with yourself and Linda (Sparrow), my top favourite bird is my daily visitor, the House Sparrow. I could just watch and listen to them in their colony all day. I've proclaimed my love for them everywhere else here, so i wont take over this thread too, lol!
After the House Sparrow its the Goldcrest, I just adore this little bird and they have so much character for something so tiny! I remember last winter when our winter visiting one was here, we were in the garden and he wanted to eat, so he sat on a branch chirping at us. No sooner we got out of the way he was on the feeder!
The Sparrowhawk is my 3rd favourite, I think the female that visits here is a beautiful bird, albeit with a somewhat menacing look about her.
Can't possibly choose one!! Goldfinch for its beauty and tinkling call, blackbird for its fluty song and starling for its antics! And I'd better stop there lol!!
