(OCTOBER 2024 HATCHES - session starts on PAGE 23)
2022-23 season's thread
One of the 3 eggs did not hatch. KATE gathered this info for us:
SunnyKate23 Jan 2023 4:24 PMUPDATE
NEWS 29th December 2022 The egg was removed and I 'candled' it with a torch. The egg has a slight leak through a small crack, but is otherwise intact. Despite using a very strong LED torch, I could see nothing, so I think the eggshell is too thick. It may be that the chick simply could not emerge. I'll offer it to the Australian Museum.
Two chicks fledged: Indigo and Rubus, both males. Indigo, the elder, was last seen on 18 March when Diamond blocked his entry to the nest box. Rubus fledged @ 46 days but died 9 days later, the result of a flying accident.

HATCH-WATCH starts on 01 OCTOBER!
Therefore I've taken the liberty of starting this thread.
Evening changeover:
IMAGICAT
Aw this is such sad news, he was never going to be able to be a healthy young bird as he should have been. I suppose at least he was taken in and looked at and put to sleep, rather than him come to a sad end on his own, or lie somewhere where he may not be found.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Thanks for the correction and whatever really pleased that YIRA safely fledged
18 November
Just showing that they're getting ready for the next season - they always seem to do it way in advance
Apparently Cilla will be having a good look around for Yira tomorrow, the Oz 19th.
Yep! In and out. this as i logged in,before he made a dash,...Then Diamond thought aout stashing, but changed her mind, and Xavier soon returned and went looking for the stash , only to be disappointed Ha!!!
YIRA Sighted
NEWS 19th November 1230 pm Yira sighted in Girinyalanha high in the eucalypts below the tower. I watched her fly to the top of a eucalypt. She was being mobbed by magpie larks and took off again quickly, so I couldn't get a photo. We've had a few 'possible' sightings from cams, but this was the clearest view in the field.
Thank you, Kate
I'm stopping the downloads now.
My grateful thanks to you both for plenty of updates and certainly hope that Yira is healthy and progresses well
