(OCTOBER 2024 HATCHES - session starts on PAGE 23)
2022-23 season's thread
One of the 3 eggs did not hatch. KATE gathered this info for us:
SunnyKate23 Jan 2023 4:24 PMUPDATE
NEWS 29th December 2022 The egg was removed and I 'candled' it with a torch. The egg has a slight leak through a small crack, but is otherwise intact. Despite using a very strong LED torch, I could see nothing, so I think the eggshell is too thick. It may be that the chick simply could not emerge. I'll offer it to the Australian Museum.
Two chicks fledged: Indigo and Rubus, both males. Indigo, the elder, was last seen on 18 March when Diamond blocked his entry to the nest box. Rubus fledged @ 46 days but died 9 days later, the result of a flying accident.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
20 December
Shortie - Xavier brought an unravaged prey item - and promptly took it away again! I didn't find him bringing it back.
SunnyKate2 said:7:32 AMBubblePiAt 18:28:10 you can see Marri in the background semi hovering a bit before she flies in.
Coincidentally, I've done the whole of Marri's visit - belatedly!
It's worn me out (because of my mistakes!), I can't do any more catching up since then.
Lovely vids Scylla, much appreciated ... oooh, that Marri is loud!

Xavier was very energetic this bonding session:
What's a Christmas tree doing growing wild in Australia?
22 December
Early morning, was it Xav?
Xav with b'fast, no-one there to give it to:
We couldn't see the roof so didn't know what he was so interested in, but it looked as tho someone must be moving up there:
Plenty bonding, scraping, normal activities - I haven't recognised Marri in the box again.
Cilla's video of the Christmas Eve breakfast delivery, with Marri keeping up a helluva racket
Later, Diamond sheltered from the thundery rain and took a nap - when I first scrolled upon it I thought she might be ill but then found the explanation:
There were more box visits and at least one bonding, and Diamond is currently sleeping on the ledge.
I put a Christmas card for you in the Anything Goes thread.
25 December
Diamond woke up and flew just before 05:30, returned to the box 08:00, then out and back a few times but the box is currently empty.
As per title "Was this a pair of "parrots" on the tower?" - they scarpered when an unidentifiable bird flew by:
I was actually looking for this but have given up:

PLUS another from CHRISTMAS DAY
NEWS 26th December 2023 Cilla Kinross Good wishes to all of you for the New Year. Many thanks for all your support during the year. A video of how Marri spent her Christmas Day https://youtu.be/pHIGGIJdLJ0 and some of their visitors on Christmas Day (and how they were seen off by Diamond!). https://youtu.be/-CShyddoLs4. So far so good with reset tower cam. Talons X. I cleaned the nest box last week, retrieved and 'candled' the egg (held a torch underneath to see contents) and it appeared to be unfertilised. There is a picture on the blog.
