(OCTOBER 2024 HATCHES - session starts on PAGE 23)
2022-23 season's thread
One of the 3 eggs did not hatch. KATE gathered this info for us:
SunnyKate23 Jan 2023 4:24 PMUPDATE
NEWS 29th December 2022 The egg was removed and I 'candled' it with a torch. The egg has a slight leak through a small crack, but is otherwise intact. Despite using a very strong LED torch, I could see nothing, so I think the eggshell is too thick. It may be that the chick simply could not emerge. I'll offer it to the Australian Museum.
Two chicks fledged: Indigo and Rubus, both males. Indigo, the elder, was last seen on 18 March when Diamond blocked his entry to the nest box. Rubus fledged @ 46 days but died 9 days later, the result of a flying accident.

Morning all
AS chat says, "The Bookends" appear happy and content.
Earlier Xavier brought feed, but it was not required, so gone into the Cache me thinks.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Yep they are a very independent pair hopefully will help them in the wider world as they grow.
Here are the Names, as on the data.
NESTLING NAMES are
Marri (=red kangaroo) 40.7 % and Barru (bilby) 40.3%.
The general consensus is that Marri is chick #1 (one day older, slightly larger, may or may not be female) and Barru for the younger one. But good luck with telling them apart at the moment! If we have one male and one female, the difference should be obvious in about a week.
Others were
Ganyi (echidna): 20.4%
Mabi (eastern quoll): 37.4% (runner up!)
Budharu ( flying fox): 17.4%
Wilay (brush-tailed possum): 18.1%
Gidyay (possum): 10.6%
Wirrang (rock wallaby): 10.4%
Dingu (dingo): 25.3%
Wambad (wombat): 9.3%
Naagun (koala): 20.8%
Gunirr (swamp wallaby):7.6%
Marradhi (spotted-tail quoll): 15.6%
Walarru (wallaroo, euro): 12.4%

a few scaps from earlier showing different in size, and starting to move around.
First Cillas Notes.
NEWS 19th October 2023 Cilla Kinross Our nestlings at 2.5 weeks are doing splendidly, Marri, slightly bigger with huge feet so MAY be female (but can't be certain until she is taller than Xavier, goes for a wander to the rocks. Barru follows her a bit and also stand upright. Diamond watches on, seeing everything.
Diamond finds some food that little ones have not discovered for themselves.
little one gets a look in Ha!!
