After discussions with birds of prey specialists, and due to the death of the female and likely desertion by the male barn owl, we have made a decision to intervene. The chicks will be removed from the nest this afternoon and will go to an expert with extensive experience in rearing barn owl chicks. Without an expert we would not be doing this. Our hope is to release any surviving chicks back onto the reserve when and if they are able to fend for themselves.
