I wasn't able to catch the failed jump to the perch, but I did manage to catch a later, more modest jump to the lowest ridge below their parent on the upper railing! They fell off backwards a few moments later - the dismount needs work.
Well, this morning I see two in the nest and a couple down the fire escape tucked into in another landing further down.
Can't tell if any are parents.
No - one parent is now on the railing, 2 are in the nest and two can be seen down the way.[NOTE: the actual time at Wellesley is 9:14 AM at the moment!]
Lots of jumping and flapping on the nest.
Parent just fed a youngster further on down the fire escape way, and flew off. That youngster is hop flapping up and down the short corridor in that landing. Next is flying for sure. Maybe with a hop up to the railing in between.
The two down the way came out of their landing into the general corridor, where a parent flew down and fed one. The youngster then returned to the nest area.
The second one has been joined by a parent and are making their way down to the nest area now.
Another unsuccessful try to fly up to the railing, fallen back to the corridor floor. Wish I could be quick enough to catch it!
This has been brilliant to follow, great to see the videos of the young birds walking along the corridors and generally becoming adjusted to life outside the nest.
Lot to learn
Hi gaynorsi! I just got back from a weekend away to find an empty nest and corridor - they are GONE! Must have happened Friday and Saturday. Awwww.... hope to see it all again next year! It was nice to have your company.
So glad to know they all fledged and are healthy birds, going back now to re-read thread and hope the ravenets all have a good life.
