OK, I know we're still in the depths of winter, with much to come, but spring is waiting in the wings! It will be great to hear from you any details of these first signs be it early nesting birds, the first blossom, or a butterfly venturing forth in weak sunshine. If you have dates from previous years for comparison, these will certainly add interest, but we'll gradually build these up in years to come. Look forward to hearing from you - I'm sure it won't be long!
Watch out for swifts
Yup, Brimstone it was - thanks Kevin. Don't suppose there's a "Hellfire" to go with it?
Maybe if I ever finish learning how to identify the local birds, I will start trying to learn the butterflies...

I spotted a peacock butterfly two weeks ago, but it was inside. Is it too early for them outside yet? I put it on a catkin and it seemed happy enough.
A lovely starling was collecting dry grass from a bare patch on the edge of the lawn this morning, and a blue tit was ransacking the moss in my window box.
Cheers, Linda.

Had this gorgeous visitor to this office a few minutes ago! Took the opportunity to take a few pics before letting her out!
Shame it was so overcast outside! Would have been better a bit brighter!

Hi

that was the first butterfly i have seen this year.
Hey farmer, farmer, put away the D.D.T now. Give me spots on my apples, but leave me the birds and the bees, please!
I also had a wasp in the house!
Most likely a queen this early in the year Janet. (as in my pics)
