First signs of spring

OK, I know we're still in the depths of winter, with much to come, but spring is waiting in the wings!  It will be great to hear from you any details of these first signs be it early nesting birds, the first blossom, or a butterfly venturing forth in weak sunshine.  If you have dates from previous years for comparison, these will certainly add interest, but we'll gradually build these up in years to come.  Look forward to hearing from you - I'm sure it won't be long!

  • My snowdrops are open but the primulas are only just showing leaf and the crocuses, dafs and tulips have appeared from beneath the leaf litter! (I started putting right some of my neglect at the weekend) Dunnocks were displaying at the local country park on Sunday.

  • My two Dunnocks, who have been around for well over a year, don't seem to be bothering with all this courtship nonsense - maybe they have developed the "old married couple" syndrome LOL

The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.

The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

  • You could be right. My home birds are just pottering around as usual. The blackbirds and tits, however, are really getting into action, with mini wars breaking out all over the garden!

PS Isn't it strange how they become'OUR' birds

  • I forgot about this thread, I saw four ladybirds last weekend crawling around the lip of a planter.

  • It was a lovely Spring day here earlier this morning. It's deteriorating somewhat now!

    Cheers, Linda.

  • At Lochwinnoch yesterday and heard our first Drumming Woodpecker of the year.  Lots of activity with all tits and lots of waterfowl. much of the loch still frozen so they were all gathered in middle. Lots of snowdrops out.

All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.

Three days after ValO started it we had snow that lasted for well over a month and since then, everytime anyone posts on it, it snows the next day which, thinking about it, means that's tomorrow up the swanee!!!!!! LOL

  • Me too considering my track record!  The snow we were promised in Beds, has not arrived and the sun is actually trying to appear.  On my short walk to catch a bus this morning I heard at least 3 song thrushes really 'shouting' at the tops of their voices and from the tops of trees.  I really enjoyed that walk and am hoping it will be the same tomorrow.  Dunnocks are really letting rip too.
