I was looking as usual out of my kitchen gardnen window where I have a feeder, at the time I didn't have my camera at the ready, when I saw a bird about the size of a blackbird, it had a block of red across it's wing with from what I could see was small bits of black and white. I've never seen a bird like it in my garden and I'm hoping it will come back so I can get a photo of it. Can anyone tell me what it is?
A couple of weeks ago, again I was standing at my kitchen window with my camera taking pictures of my little Coal tits when a Hawk suddenly appeared on the bird feeder, I was so shocked I couldn't get my camera up in time to take it., I couldn't believe that it would have the cheek to come down so close to the house. As soon as it saw me it was gone.
Has anyone ever seen that before?
Time changes the body, but not how you think you look.
Thanks John B for your advice, I won't bother with the anti icing product. I think I'll try the Candle lit on a saucer which I have been told helps,
As for the bird, it was a very definite red on the wing and went from wide to narrow, I didn't have a look at it's head as I was too busy trying to find my camera, and then it was gone. I will keep a look out for it and I may get lucky and be able to take a photo. It was a large bird more the size of the blackbird, but from the quick look I had, the rest of it's body was brown and I thought I saw narrow bits of black and white next to the red, but I could be wrong.
When I saw it I thought it may have been a bird that had escaped from some bird santuary as it's not often we see unusual birds in our garden. The other birds we've had has been a rather large colourful Peacock who was eating our plums and belonged to a neighbour, and an owl.
