Well, Springwatch starts again on Monday. I for one am looking forward to it although it has never been the same without Bill Oddie. I have a lovely personal memory of Bill. He was speaking at an event at the NEC in Birmingham and then was signing copies of his new bird book. It was lovely to meet him face to face. He was very shy but charming.
I live just up the road from Martin Mere WWT and I love it when the programme comes from there - so many familiar sights. I hope it returns there before too long.

WAILING HEATH CHICKEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No, I don't mean Kate Humble I mean a Stone Curlew, which here in Norfolk used to be called the above.
So, her observation last night was understandable :)

Yes, that was funny wasn't it. So she wasn't too far out with her description!
Did you see tonight's episode? Big gobs on those nightjars!!
Well done to Simon King on his well deserved OBE
Cheers

I have to say I really enjoyed the programme tonight.
The Nightjar is quite something else - what an odd looking bird. It is bizarre to look at.
Loved the article about the Bats too. The man with the mad machinery (like a mad scientist) to get top notch pictures of the bat in slow motion. Was the flying bat just amazing to look at, and what photography to behold.
The Advocet and the Shelduck seen to like to fight with one another. The Shelduck is a much bigger bird too. Love the view at the end of the show with the Shelduck placing its chicks under its wings. Really cute.
Last time I saw a Avocet, was at Titchwell, Norfolk. There are more birds some years over other years. I know that the area is improved to be as Avocet friendly as possible - just a great place to see these birds.
Looking forward to tomorrow programme {big smile}
Well done to Simon for his OBE {applaud} - hope he comes to the Bird Fair at Rutland this year 2010 along with other celebrities.
Regards

Aye it was a realy good show tonight!
I watched the photo one that was on the red button after the main program and the photo of the Kingfisher kinda blew me away It was amasing.
The Blackheaded gull was realy striking also.
Looking forward to tomorrows program.
Hi all
Loved tonight's episode, missed last night as I was too busybei ng on here! so will catch with that, anyhoo I just loved the Busteds (spelling?) - what a snooty expression they have when displaying! I also loved the bats, I see them here most nights at the moment but don't really appreciate how much actually goes on.
Did anyone watch the Photoclub session on the "red" button, I'm proud, oh yes through association that John McHale posted one of the cutest owl shots - Yey John!!

Wasn't it interesting that Avocets were reintroduced thanks to the 2nd world war? Flooding the south coast to make it harder to land created a suitable habitat for them to return. Fascinating and a jolly good thing.

Bustards are cool- even if they do look like a giant feather duster caught in a Dyson... :)
"Did anyone watch the Photoclub session on the "red" button"
Now I feel such a nit. I looked in vain for the Photoclub session on BBC1,2,3,4 etc and didn't realise it was a red button jobby. Actually, I've never used the red button thing, and I'm not a dinosaur, honest.
Do the red button programmes get shown on BBC i? I've worked out how to use that! lol
