Well, Springwatch starts again on Monday. I for one am looking forward to it although it has never been the same without Bill Oddie. I have a lovely personal memory of Bill. He was speaking at an event at the NEC in Birmingham and then was signing copies of his new bird book. It was lovely to meet him face to face. He was very shy but charming.
I live just up the road from Martin Mere WWT and I love it when the programme comes from there - so many familiar sights. I hope it returns there before too long.
Pipit
I got 5 as well - although last week I excelled myself and got 6!
Dear Sparrow!!
Springwatch
Sparrows!!
Yay xxxx
Hi Pipit, LOL, like you I immediately thought of Linda - who I bet was glued to the TV. I never realised they were so badly persecuted here - how awful. I'm quite vociferous in my views about the trapping of birds in other countries, but never realised the Sparrow was so badly treated here. What an eyeopener that was for me. It just makes me appreciate them even more when I see them in the garden or anywhere in fact.
Regards
Kerry

Yes Kesmo
I thought Springwatch really spoke out for Sparrows. Good on them. However, I thought tonight's episode was back to more presenters less wildlife. Never mind. Lots of it is very good - and we had Bill on tonight. Yay!!!

Hi Kezmo
Like you, I was amazed about the history and persecution of the Sparrow to lead its decline over the years.
To see a man with a net load of caught Sparrows was quite dispictable to be honest, and to consider the Sparrow a pest too - that is something I do not understand. All wildlife has a right to live as well as humans and where here long before we even existed.
I afraid I do not remember feeding Sparrows in parks at all (though I should do as it must have been in the era I was a young person)
Anyway, now, there is a very different view of them now and they should be cherished for the endearing little birds that they are and their trust in people is very unique in the bird world.
They deserve our complete respect.
I hope Sparrow sees the clip, and of course there is BBC I-player too.
Kathy and Dave
What a joy to see the humble sparrow starring on SW. Thanks Pip, kerry and Kathy for thinking about me. Paul will be sorry if he missed it.
We Brits have done some bad things to our wildlife in the past, and here's hoping it is all in the past ... but we know it isn't.
This evening I sat out in my garden with a glass of wine whilst hubby made the evening meal. Bliss! I was surrounded by my little treaure pots. I had put some mealworms down for them in various places, knowing the starlings had gone away for the day. There must have been more than 30 of them, including a few babies and many juveniles. Several of the adults were still collecting the worms, so more babies due soon I hope. They were chattering away and having such fun. Several took the opportunity to have a late in the day bath, and I was in heaven!
Cheers, Linda.

Ah Linda, sounds like heaven........even more so evening meal cooked by hubby!?! are you spoiling him with mealworms or is he just doing this coz he loves you? LOL
Hi Kerry,
He does it because he doesn't appreciate being poisoned! He's the cook in our house. I don't even know how to work the oven. (True!!!)
hi Kathy, hear hear, I couldn't agree more. When you really look at birds and understand their vulnerability I'm always left stumped how some people can see them in any other way other than needing our help.
hi Linda
You evening sounds a delight, and to have your OH cooking for you too
Really with the oven! {oops the virtues of cooking}
Anyway just lap up all the enjoyment of the pampering that you have had. nothing like it. What was on the menu tonight?
Dave is back on Friday night, and I feel pooped at the moment from all the thinking and doing today!
Sleep sounds a great thing tonight.
