Am i right in saying this is a white wagtail? i have spent weeks and months trying to attract our little song birds as always had pigeons and starlings in mass numbers - so changed the feeders, partially blocked the bird table and now have a lovely mix of the Tit family, Robins, Wren i think, Black birds etc and this new guy to my garden so very happy currently - although those pesky starlings will hang off everything and get the food. All ideas welcome
I'm no expert Andrea but I think it's a Pied Wagtail, nice to have in the garden
I just bought a caged feeder hoping it will keep the Starlings away, they're eating everything at the moment.
I would say Pied Wagtail. A White Wagtail is more grey than black in the upper parts, as far as I know.
Thank you never seen it before untill this week and is here every afternoon now. The Starlings are the absolute bane of my life daily especially with mealworms and suet no matter which feeder i use, they clear it all in minutes - going to have to get super creative and making it harder for them to land or get near the food. I dont have a wren visiting i think its a dunnock - its these moments i wish i had access to my grandparents books (from 40 odd years ago) used to love sitting with them identifying the birds. Google is unreliable as it told me the above was a white wagtail lol -
I stopped trusting Google a good while ago Andrea, especially for wildlife, plants etc. there are much better apps out there. I use iNaturalist where you can add a photo and it suggests what it might be with a % match and you can then delete it or leave it, adding more information and others around the world will either agree or suggest better As for the Starlings!!! I love them as a photo subject but on our feeders????? Like a plague of Locusts good luck managing them \
Beautiful bird you owned.
