There are lots of examples of herons taking on large species for food. Back in November 2019, I photographed a grey heron tackling an eel, and flying off with the eel still wriggling and writhing, to try and escape.

Thanks Mike I see the eel wasn’t making it easy for the heron to eat it. It looks like it was getting tied up in knots but I reckon we both know the outcome, the eel lost its battle

If only I was able to video the heron flying off with the eel, it would have shone how real the battle of escape vs lunch was.
