we have a thread for insects and lady beetles but not beetles in general and there’s lots of different types of beetles and they all play an important role in the ecosystem too so I thought I’d make a thread about beetles where people can share photos of any type of beetles they get this year if they have any
I saw my first beetle of the year today
4th April
Click beetle
In my wildflower border Climbing one of my seedlings
I found out I can use my magnifying glass and zoom in and then take a photo
An ant spotted the click beetle so it followed it around and felt him or her with its feellers so the beetle stayed still. The way an ants sight works is They can only see things that move so can there eyes are made to sense movement but can’t see things that don’t move very well so cause they have poor eyesight rely on movement and there antennaes which act as feelers so creatures will stay still if an ant spots them then when it looses interest will continue the Ant stood back and allowed it past then left
Here they are
beetle wisely staying still
The click beetles antennaes serve the same function
like most Animals with antennaes the beetle is feeling around. Antennaes are also called feellers
