A lovely afternoon at St Aidans Nature Reserve

Looks like you had a good day out ILR
I've still to see a great white egret, or whooper swans
However I think your pintails are actually gadwalls

Thank you Benji, It was a lovely sunny day and there was quite a lot to see but the Kestrel was the star of the day for me.

I like those perched Kestrel photo's ILR, you had good weather :)

The black rump and black bill on your "Pintail " suggests it is in fact a Gadwall. It's nice to see the Whoopers returning, we had two drop in locally yesterday but only for a short visit before moving on. We must gett back to St.Aidens again but we seem to have plenty going on locally and keep putting it off. When  you  post your  photos  it keeps reminding us to plan another  visit 

What a lovely day out you had ILR with good weather and good mix of birds and dragonfly too. This sunny weather has really brought out the dragonflies as we saw a lot at L.moss too, Love the Kestrel posing so nicely and all the waterfowl, thanks for these beautiful photos and for posting,

Thanks Pete I have amended the pintail for a gadwall, I am pretty poor when it comes to ID's as you probably know.
It was nice to see the whooper swan. I called into Ripon Wetlands reserve today, late afternoon, not been before
but it looks good and runs alongside the river, so always chance of a Kingfisher.

It was a gorgeous sunny day Hazel, I had a walk around our local reservour in the morning and then onto St Aidans
in the afternoon, as you have already seen there was lots to see, but the Kestrel made my day for sure. and was pleased to photograph the Great egret in flight, although a long way away It wasn't too bad considering the distance away. Thanks Hazel for your lovely comments.

Back at St Aidans again so soon ILR...I can see why....lovely weather and some fabulous birds. Well done getting the Great Egret in flight! Kessie looks so lovely and angelic sitting on the dainty wee branch lol.
