Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can

  • Thanks for that Pete, since I took an interest in wildlife photography which was during lockdown, I first started photographing birds but now my interest has broadened to wildlife in general, and learning about each species is fascinating. Identifying each species is one big challenge but the good thing is I know far more than I used to but I still get the wrong ID far more than right. But we all have to start at the bottom and I still have a long way to go and I need all the help I can get. I shall take a look at yorkshirebutterflies.co.uk Thanks again Pete
  • In our house Chis is the one interested in moths and butterflies I still prefer to be out on the moors looking at upland birds I don't think we ever stop learning and that is probably why some of us have been at it for so long

  • Hi Pete
Thanks for your reply i have been out for an hour today just around the block but i managed a few items in that time, some bees, and fly's, a speckled wood i saw about 7 of those and a couple of moths. I used to go to ouseburn which is roughly where you are I believe and i used to see a lot of kingfishers along the river. A lovely spot.
  • We are out in Ripon now but I grew up in Boroughbridge not far from Ouseburn, I was a fishing bailiff for a fishing club there for a while. Our walk today was more a winfdy nature walk than birding and we got Speckled Wood as well

  • I was at boroughbridge last week I had a walk along the river and saw 3 kingfishers and didn’t manage to get one photo but sometimes that’s how it goes. You will know Hunters lodge as well Pegs 220 and 221 ?
  • I won a Leeds Amalgamation mstch there back in the 60's very rare for me enter a match never mind win one

Thanks Mike I was heading back to the car park when I took the landscape photos it’s amazing where the time goes when you are there. I arrived at around 14.30 and got back at the car park at 1830, It was a nice afternoon and three RSPB guys told me that an Osprey had been seen there last week. It just shows you anything is possible at St Aidans ?.

You're welcome, and no matter what, there is always something to see.

I'm terrible, when I get out and about, its often a wrench to go back home.

  • ILR I more or less gave up on course fishing when I moved to Ripon and found some nice stream fly fishing, much more relaxing and just off the edge of the moors
