  • Hi, i have just joined up today after having my back garden invaded by a flock of waxwings for the second time in 2 weeks.

1st time thought i was seeing things, today i made it my mission to find out what the heck they were as they were stunning birds.  So busy with the binoculars didn't think to take pictures but will be watching out for them again.

Just amazed at them and i feel a new bird watching passion starting to grow :o)

So any one in West lothian...... there are loads of them around. xx

  • hi Kittycat and welcome

Great looking bird aren't they and lets hope that new birdwatching passion kicks in.

Great bunch of people willing to answer your wild life questions on the forum.

there are lots of good pictures of waxwings on the forum.

         Regards   Ray

  • Hi K33adr,

Where abouts have they been spotted in Ikley?  We drove through yesterday on our way to Bolton Abbey and saw a bloke with some binos looking at a tree near Ikley Vaults.  Not sure if they were waxwings or not but we had too many cars around us to stop and when we turned round the birds in the tree had gone (and so had the bloke!).

Might get chance to get there again Wednesday and have a look.

    Cheers

    Rik

  • They were about 100m on from the Vaults, heading towards Bolton Abbey, feeding on berries in a private garden. What you saw yesterday will most likely have been them. Don't know where you are from, but on my way back to Leeds, saw a flock of about 30 in Burley in Wharefdale, in the Generous Pioneer pub car park.

  • hello, following on from my first post yesterday I had the pleasure of the waxwings in my back garden again today and managed to get a couple of shots.

Probably not the best quality ones but thought i would share.

Had a couple of very excited toddlers when they all swooped in again :o)

ps hope i have actually identified the right bird lol eeeek.

  • HI K33adr

Thanks for the info.  I bet we saw them yesterday. I am from Leeds and hopefully will get  out and about on wednesday and track the little blighters down i will keep you posted.

    Thanks

    Rik

  • 5 Waxwings graced the Lime trees here at the Lodge a couple of hours ago.... a pleasant, albeit brief distraction from work!

  • At last I got one (more than one)

Couldn`t stand it any longer with reading the reports of Waxwings in Sheffield.Put in the sat nav and headed off this morning at first light.

The light wasn`t good for photo`s but I had a go.There was an estimated 150 birds roosting and then swooping down to feed on what i was told cherry tree berries.

    love life & live it

  • Great photos MJay well done and thanks for sharing them ... Can never get enough of those stunning wee birds!

    Cheers
